best meal deal in town!

The Thomas M. Wernert Center for Mental Health Recovery and Support (formerly Consumers Union of Lucas County) is a consumer operated, non-profit mental health support agency. The agency’s mission is “To improve the quality of life for individuals living with mental illness through consumer-driven and focused programs which address recovery through education, peer support and advocacy.” Our vision is…”to be the most innovative mental health support agency whose programs and services are consistent with the concepts of Emerging Best Practices in Mental Health Recovery as recognized by the Ohio Department of Mental Health.”

The Thomas M. Wernert Center helps raise the quality of life for our consumer members through our daily drop-in center, support groups, peer support, advocacy and educational programs. The 3 R’s (Relax, Restore, Recover) Drop-in Center provides a safe place to relax and have fellowship with their peers. The drop-in center also has daily activities including support groups, art, regular talent shows and the Friday Afternoon Supper Club where members receive a hot meal free of charge. Our new building also houses a T.V. lounge/game room, a computer lab with internet service and tutorials, a shower facility and laundry area, a craft lab, and a “quiet room” where members can meditate, make private phone calls or have meetings with staff or service providers.

Our building also contains two separate classrooms for both support groups and classes. Consumers Union teaches psycho-educational classes including BRIDGES and curriculums we designed for the Peer to Peer Mentoring Enrichment Program and the Leadership Education Program (LEP). With the additional classroom space here at the Thomas M. Wernert Center, we will also begin offering support groups such as Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA), Schizophrenics Anonymous, and a new support group for Drug and Alcohol Recovery for Consumers (DARC).

This program is currently offered in the following counties:
